what kind of sites are hot these days?

For instance 4-5 years back social bookmarking (digg deliciuos etc) were booming and everybody were trying to create their own social bookmarking site. Are any similar trends these days?
Ps: Does anyone know any websites that reviews new/trendy sites (so by reading that site you can see whats hot on the internet at any given moment)?

Well, one could think of sites like OpenLeaks to be on the edge in 2011, right? What do you think, is that a possibility?

I think Ipad/tablet apps and sites built around that interface will be huge this upcoming year, especially ones gears towards children. Imagine thousands of paper picture books making their way onto an interactive learning web portal for kids to visit and learn from.

There are attempts of creating the same platform like what Facebook is offering, I guess you have to learn how to interact well with the public to get noticed. You can research on the sites that gets high demands like finance, stocks, casino, social networks, news portals.

If you want to look at hot trends then follow the tech blogs like Mashable, TechCrunch etc as well as, HackerNews and you'll start to notice patterns. For instance, there are alot of people launching Photo-Sharing Apps more recently (although I'd argue Color is much more than that).

Additionally, you can look at places such as KillerStartups and Flippa and notice sites which types of sites selling well etc

Adult sites as others have mentioned will always make money,i have 6 of these sites in my online portfolio and are usually seen as recession proof, its very hard to try and predict what the next hot thing will be but i am building a site that is venture capital related not prepered to expand on this project at the moment but i feel its a niche that has big potential.Everyone is aware of the rise of sites like twitter, google.groupon etc but you dont hear much about the guys who made big money by funding them.
