What is the best ecommerce software platform out there?

I wanted to know what is the best software platform out there for anybody looking to start an online retail webstore?

I heard good things with oscommerce but it's hard to find support for it when you need it.

I was thinking about switching over to yahoo store?

    Anybody have any experience here?

I suggest you using joomla hosting. Because Joomla is a custom friendly one-click install tool with powerful content management features. It supports numerous services such as document management, eCommerce engines, email newsletters, forums, blogging software, etc.

Don't be so confident in choosing web hosting provider. Try to check more as much as possible offers available in the market. Say sibername.com offers nice web hosting services and their plans include many free bonuses. I personally think that Zen Cart would be a perfect choice. But before to make your final decision, make a conversation with their support and discuss any related issue. I know that they have good support team.

I suggest you first look for a good hosting solution and look you can look for good reviews and deals at Web Hosting Talk great place to get information and ask for help.

After you found your host, you should also do some Free trials of some shopping carts to see which best suits your needs. Some are more complicated, and they all have different options.

I think that magento is one of the most secure and reliable ecommerce software. I have seen that serverpoint.com offered pretty good and resourceful web hosting plans which are optimized for magento web hosting. Their pricing is competitive and you will have nice e-commerce hosting opportunities dealing with this company. You web sites will be always up.

I used zen-cart for some sites at my company.... it takes a while to get used to but the level of control is insane... if you are program savvy that is the way to go... unlike joomla it is specifically designed as a shopping cart.

Just goes to show you, there are all sorts of carts around.

I host about 100 small business shopping carts and by far the most popular is CubeCart. There are some Zen and some OSC, but CubeCart is the definite favorite. It is the easiest for someone new to selling online to get up and selling.

I've had clients report sales within the first 24 hours online.

Soho is different and you can't take it with you if you change hosts, Magento is for accomplished coders, not for the newbies.

Cubecart is free, or there is a newer $129 version, but the free is the most popular.

What are you selling? What is your business model? What features or tools do you need from an e-commerce platform?

Do you need recurring billing, marketing tools, specific reporting capabilities, an invoicing system, customer management tools, etc?

You should try to answer those questions before choosing an e-commerce solution.

There are several service providers that easily integrate with osCommerce and other shopping carts.

PrestaShop and Magento have been the ones that have worked the best for me.
