What do you guys think about this concept for some Website Owners?

Hi everyone I started a thread in the General Business section which led to me creating this and I want you guys to take a look and let me know what you think. Some say its revolutionary, I just think its practical.(This is not a website review just something I want you to read)

    Hey Mitchell,

It certainly sounds interesting and your writeup is pretty clear on the background, however, the part about quid pro quo is cause for concern. How would the network be able to provide that kind of standard?

For example: I have just 1 network site I want to drive traffic to. I join the network and they get approved. For every member that gets on board my program I go and do the same for them on their site?

Please take this constructively... based on what I read, it sounds like a network of lazy webmasters trying to leverage each others eyeballs.

Search engine eyeballs are not the only sort of traffic one can derive and there are SO many other strategies that don't even concern the internet that virtually noone is putting in play.

Can you possibly elaborate more on the concept and give a few robust examples of exactly how this proposed network will operate?

A lot of good points in that article, I often think about how many great websites we are missing just because googles search doesn't find it as relevant etc

Joshua, thanks for checking out the link. When I refer to quid pro quo I don't mean that you literally have to return a favor to everyone who helps you out in any way. It doesnt work that way. I am not encouraging any webmasters to be lazy.

I believe the "crabs in a barrel" analogy is a good one to use in reference to this idea. I believe that the majority of website owners are like crabs in a barrel waiting to be metaphorically eaten and we all want out of the barrel. Out of the barrel equals success of course. If you have observed crabs in a barrel you know that anytime a crab gets close to climbing out another crab grabs him and pulls him back in and this continues as they all attempt to get out. If crabs could reason they would figure out that if the simply all worked together they could climb out one on top of the other and the ones that get out can pull the remaining crabs out. But since each crab can't see past his own selfish survival(success) they all end up dying(going out of business).

This organization would be like a group of smart crabs in the barrel with the regular crabs who have begun to crawl on each others backs and the crabs that get out will pull the other crabs in their group out with them and so on.

I'm not exactly sure what a search engine eyeball is, but this organization is intended to do much more that help out with Google rankings.

To be more robust in my explanation I'll give you a hypothetical situation. I have a website that sells shoes. You have a site that sells business cards. You may know of 10 websites that sell shoes and I may know of 15 websites that sell business cards. You normally just go to Google and search "Shoes" and "shoes.com" shows up first and you normally order from them because they are web reputable and I normally search "business cards" on Google and "VistaPrint" comes up and I buy from them because they are web reputable. Although you know that you are good at what you do, I will never even know that you exist and vice versa. As members of a united organization we would not only be aware of each others services, but would be encouraged to give each other a chance. A chance that we would not normally give each other if this organization did not exist. That is what I mean by quid pro quo.

i think that an idea such as this is a very good one. i agree with 8bit in the sense that many great websites are left unseen simply because larger, more popular websites overshadow them. great idea and i hope this all works out for the best

Thumbs up Thanks for the example

Thank you for elaborating some more

Just to clarify - eyeballs = traffic to your site.

Search engine eyeballs are, therefore, precisely what you reference in your hypothetical situation when you say - I go to google and search for business cards.

I will definitely keep an eye on your proposed network.

I really love this idea and thats why I want to be so involved. Business owners helping out Business Owners. I just had an idea. Like maybe business's that are in the network could give special deals to fellow network members so that will encourage existing members to use the business's in the network and also encourage other business's to join to get the deals.

    Sound good?
