Hello, I own a towing and recovery company and need some help with my website. My site is super basic and I have almost no competition in this area. I actually only have one competitor that is at my level.

I built the site off of a basic vista print website builder and had my site on the first page for the last couple of months on Google. I tried my hand at meta-tags and I made a bunch of changes and no where near the first page on this last Google update.
I'm to the point where im going to walk away from it and let someone else get my site to the top and keep it there.

In the SEO world, where there are millions of websites struggling to rank in Google Top 10 for competitive keywords, one can't "have almost no competition". What do you mean exactly? That you ranked #1 for your main keywords and other lagged behind considerably? If so, you should have done keyword research to find keywords with a larger number of searches - they would have driven more targeted traffic to your website.

Your drop in rankings should be connected to the quality of your backlinks, rather than to the meta tags you've changed. Meta data is important, but it can hardly cause dramatical changes.

I'm to the point where im going to walk away from it and let someone else get my site to the top and keep it there.

You can either someone else do your SEO, or master it yourself. It's no magic - you only have to educate yourself. Google Starter Guide and SEO in Practice are very helpful for a start. You can also use SEO software to automate certain tasks, like rank checking or keyword research I was talking about previously.

Try to make sure you are listed on every single local directory possible there are about 20 really good ones

Then try to get as many reviews on each of local directory sites as you can.

Also content writing and posting could go along way for your cause as well
