The most obvious benefit of a joint venture is that you don't have to do all the work. While each joint venture is different, for the most part, the work is pretty much divided down the middle if it's a true joint venture. So maybe one person will work on creating the web page and graphics while the other person will work on the sales copy. Maybe one person has a large list to market to while the other person has the technical skills needed to create the product itself.
