    Keyword Density Ratio

    Hello,

What are you all using for your keyword density ratio when producing web content?

I started out using 10% a few years ago when I started my website but then dropped down to 8% or so and heard from someone that 3 or 4% is where you want to be now.

    Thoughts?

Currently, search engines prefer a keyword density of 1 to 3 percent. There's a formula for measuring it. It's (Nkr * Nwp / Tkn) * 100. Nkr = the number of times you use the word or phrase in your article. Nwp = the number of words in the phrase. (So "organic produce" has an Nwp of 2). Tkn = the total number of words in the article or webpage. Thus, your article of 600 words that mentioned organic produce twice would have a keyword density of .6% while the other article of the same length that mentioned the same keyword four times would have a keyword density of 1.3%. A much better ranking.

Is the keyword in the title tag factored into the keyword density ratio?

I would go with 3-5%. Keyword density needs to be balanced correctly too low and you will not get the optimum benefit, too high and your page might get flagged for spamming.

Usually I go for 2-3% keyword density for example if my article has 400 words, i used the keyword 8-12 times in the content.

I use a program called website auditor from "SEO Power Suite" it will analyze your keyword density based on the search engines preferences, and compare it against the highest ranking keyword competitors to give you examples where to increase or decrease your content to rank higher.. it's very effective.

    Hello,

I am using 7% or something some sites are 1-2% but I don't think that the 7 % will be spam. Search engines need keywords!

There is much talk about the ideal keyword density of a web page. The bottomline here is that there is no thumb rule regarding the ideal keyword density in a website, mainly because the search engines change their algorithms frequently. Also, different search engines allow a different keyword density. So, while a more than 2% keyword density is considered spamming by Google, MSN and Yahoo allow a liberal 5% keyword density in a web page. While some search engines attach more importance to keywords in your title, meta tags and web copy, Google - the most important search engine, searches for keywords in your web page text.
