    E-Commerce Business

    Hi,
How do I start my own e-commerce business? I have no technical knowledge whatsoever. I want to sell products such as cell phones, sporting goods and apparels online and don't know who to approach or how to build a web site. Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.

Hey, I don't have any personal experience running an online store, however I do know what e-commerce systems would be good for you. If you are looking to run a small store, you might want to look at Shopify (www.shopify.com), but if you want to this store to become quite a large-scale business, I would definately recommend Magento (www.magentocommerce.com).

There's a beginners guide on Magento that was published this year and apparently it's very good, although I haven't read it myself. You can find it on this link Magento Beginner's Guide: Amazon.co.uk: William Rice: Books

Sorry I can't be of any more help, hopefully other members on this forum will have ecommerce experience to help you out

Selling online is very tough, you have to focus on a niche market to be successful. For example, cell phones are probably over saturated online, you should find a product that doesn't have too much competition, and that you can get a good ROI, meaning you have a supplier with good wholesale prices that are much much lower than the competition, so you could make a profit and be competitive.

Once you find your product, you have to research, research, research, and more research!!!!! RESEARCHHHHH RESEARCH RESEARCHHHHH!!!! There are infinite ways of going about a store, different shopping carts, different SEO companies, different toll free # providers, different everything and then that multiplied by a thousand more different things. Your head could literally explode!

The main points are, find your niche, execute an efficient way of operating, find a way of getting targeted traffic (SEO is the way to go!, it rhymes), and the ultimate last one, convert. If you could get 100,000 who are looking for your product to your site it is likely that less than 2% will make a purchase (eCommerce statistic). 2% will (its always a might really) buy if you look trustworthy, offer perks, are better than the competition or can make yourself seem that way, gotta have a competitive edge. Say your profit per sale is an average of $10, that's 2,000 sales x $10 = $20,000.

The Key to being succesfull in eCommerce, and anything for that matter is to do it right. Do not take any short cuts, do not fall for "getting rich quick" scams or false middlemen claiming to be suppliers, do everything right.

PS. If you need more help, PM me, I love to talk about this stuff!
