    Dropshipping

Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer.

Dropshipping allows you to sell products either at your own site or at auction sites like Yahoo, eBay or ebid without keeping a physical inventory for them as the dropshipping company will do that for you.

    Red face Dropshipping

Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer. As in retail businesses, the majority of retailers make their profit on the difference between the wholesale and retail price but some retailers earn an agreed percentage of the sales in commission, paid by the wholesaler to the retailer.

How long does shipping normally take when ordering just 1 product to a consumer?.. I've herd 2 to 4 weeks from some website today as I was reading about this stuff. Is that on average?... I sure hope not.

If that's the case, then what the f--- is the point in dropshipping... you wont have any customers, and the ones you do get will quickly run to a competitor that has cheaper faster shipping.

How would any drop ship business compete with ebay and amazon? There is no such thing as a niche market any more.

Honestly, 99% of my online buying comes from amazon, 1% from proflowers and/or 1800 flowers.

I've never done business with an independent drop ship business, and now that I read more about it, why should I?.. whats the advantage to the buyer ?

stocking your own inventory and dropshipping is a good low risk technique because you can buy bulk and stock the core items you know will sell, then expand your product offering by using dropship suppliers.

you can find a niche, an area to specialize in, and offer great deals on those core items you buy in bulk and stock and ship yourself. also, real dropship suppliers often sell at below wholesale prices.

ebay and amazon dont rule the internet, there are a lot of other stores who do extremely well, and they dropship, ebay and amazon dont always have the best prices or variety.

drop shipping is very helpful to start selling online, online shopping is huge, and you can offer products at prices lower than amazon's prices if you are using real wholesale suppliers.

there are 3 obstacles to overcome:
finding real, true, legitimate drop ship wholesalers who dont charge membership fees.
setting up a shopping cart/website. opensource shopping carts can help, opencart is a good one.
connecting your supplier's inventory updates to your website with regular/automatic updates. (this can be accomplished with software).
