Bingo. Speaking from experience guys, drop shipping gets you in the door but eventually becomes very overwhelming. Think of having to track down tracking numbers - returns/exchanges, and petty customer service issues. All is so much easier when you have the product physcially in stock because you have the answers right in front of you and don't need to wait for "that" email or phone call from the actual supplier.

I've managed ecommerce for some time now and while drop shipping can be a good choice for the "casual" ecommerce operation, drop shipping is a dangerous crutch to lean on in the beginning without proper planning.

For the beginning ecommerce site / entrepreneur drop shipping can be attractive because of the low upfront capital outlay because you have no inventory, and it is good for that.

However, most entrepreneurs think they can start a drop shipping site and gracefully scale to 50 or 100 orders a day with no problem. The reality is that its very difficult to manage the customer service aspect of drop shipping- tracking numbers, delivering in a timely manner, order status updates, even billing- and drop shipping does not scale well to the larger order counts to become profitable beyond beer money.

The only way you can successfully manage large order counts is either a) stock your own inventory and control your own supply line, or b) hire lots of customer service people to sit on the phone with customers and the drop shipper all day. Trust me, stocking inventory is cheaper than stocking employees.

Of course, if your goal is to get 1-10 orders per day drop shipping may be good for you. If your goal is to have 50-100 orders per day, drop shipping might be a good tactic in the beginning, but you must have a plan to transition to an inventory based logistics system in the future.

In short: Drop shipping can be good for the beginner, but don't plan on building an empire with it. Treat it like what it is- a system for people with no money to sell products. Once you have the money, move on and sell from inventory like every other successful retail business does.

    my 2 cents

"The only way you can successfully manage large order counts is either a) stock your own inventory and control your own supply line, or b) hire lots of customer service people to sit on the phone with customers and the drop shipper all day. Trust me, stocking inventory is cheaper than stocking employees."

I could be wrong, but it seems to me if you stock the inventory then you need to move it in, catalog it, find it, box it, ship it....if you are trying to sell 50 to 100 orders a day you would need a large stock center which would be leased, or bought, plus stocking employees and shippers. If you are doing 50 to 100 a month, then maybe you could stock a few items, but then you could only offer a small number of items.

Now...you could stock and use a 3rd party stocking & shipping center, even Amazon now lets you do this, but then it would seem to be the same as if you used a dropship program.

Customer service people will be needed if you stock products or dropship at high volumes.

Another way you can do high volume sale orders is to either work with suppliers that allow you to complete an order automation or use a data service provide to stock your website with daily updates of the price, quantity, and status for several thousand products on your site each day. Also, they can load the new products and images each day as well. If you can get to the point where you are only marketing your site and processing orders then you can save lots of time in site updates and inventory stock checking or dealing with orders for products that are inactive or outof stock.

So...if you have a data service solution provider then your can focus on marketing and customer service while selling dropship products.

    Legit Dropshipper/Whole saler

    Hi

Those who are looking for a legit biz on net may become bit overwhelmed by the responses. I am not saying everybody who is talking about home biz are scam but its very difficult to select the right one which may deem to fit with your credentials as not everybody can do well in each and every opportunity. The real ecommerce is pretty much buying & selling on net some real product not the membership. You can look around EBAY the most visited ecommerce site in the world & can start selling product though you need to be trained up a bit. Once you are get going you can expect some decent earning. Not that you will be selling your own product rather you should be selling brand /non brand item from the legitimate supplier. The fact is not everybody is the direct manufacturer most of them are middle man or scammer. Large manufacturers are not so interested on auction site because of small quantity & usually they do not post their real address on net. The best option is to get product sourcing directory service again it is hard to find the real one. After extensive research I found a company which is the most legit & trusted for many years. You click on my signature to find out more of the company.

    Best of luck

The WWB was already posted farther up on this Thred.

Also, you can search look at the companies that are at the tradeshows. Google for tradeshow events and then look at the companies that will be there. You do not have to always go to the events to find people...you can just see who will be going to the show.

dropshipping is a popular method of starting a home based business via the Internet. With minimal start-up costs, no stock to buy, no posting/packaging and no storage space required dropshipping has helped people start trading online via auction sites or their own ecommerce web-sites.

no idea? never again for me.. LOOK

Please visit my webpage for information on dropshipping. I purchased this same program and yes it was expensive but it's a real deal program. Once you purchase it and log in you'll see what I'm talking about. They update it all the time and personally test the drop shippers before they approve them to be on the site. You really can't go wrong. You can check with BBB.org and also RIPOFFREPORT dot com Ripoff Report: By Consumers, For Consumers to check on ANY COMPANY YOU'RE LEARY of. I seen someone mentioned MegaGoods dot com ... DON'T DO IT.... Also, netdropshipper.com is the same.. no cust service and they will try to take your money and never ship anything to your customers.. Any company that claims to be a true wholesaler and doesn't ask for a tax id # is a MIDDLE MAN. Getting that tax ID cost me $10 which was spent on registering a company name here in my county.. My state (Michigan) doesn't let you file for the Sales Tax License online so it took forever. I do know that there are alot of states that let you do it online which is sooooooooo much quicker than snail mail. Then you fill out the forms for your state and they'll send you a Sales Tax License.. visit my site at JUST EMAIL ME! Drop Ship Source Directory,Worldwide Brands Drop Shippers, Wholesale Suppliers .. In fact right now until 12/16/07 midnight Eastern Standard Time you can take an extra $30 off of your order. Also, don't hesitate to email me with any questions you might have.. Even to be sure that this company has a drop shipper for the items you want to sell.. I can look them up and tell you how many companies sell those items.. I've had my encounters with these scam artists online and I hope that I can help at least ONE person to find the TRUE dropshipper list. This will save you lot's of time and money TRUST ME!! Look forward to hearing from anyone with questions!

dropship at mousesmilitary dot you know cm
