    Stop link building...

I have a friend who works for a very highly regarded SEO firm. This company charges $1,000 just to evaluate your site.

Anyway from what he is saying, i should take any link page i have off my site and no longer do any time of link exchanges. I should focus 100% on content exchanges such as writing articles. They have completely removed all of the link pages from their customer's websites.

The reason for this was google recently changed they way the rank sites. Any link on a page with other outgoing links will be devalued. This is to keep the searches more relevant as some companies are achieving first page status simply because of backlinks on link exchanges and not through the natural process.

Another thing they are doing is converting every blog post into articles on the websites. As blogs have also been recently devalued. It is better to have a nice article on your site than a blog post with a backlink.

Take this how ever you want. Although we did eliminate all link and blog pages on our site and have no outgoing links and we have seen significant boost in ranking in google for our key terms over the last 5 days.

It seems strange but you might be right. With respect to your source.

i thought it is pretty common knowledge that link exchanges hurt your Google ranking. one important thing that a lot of people don't know about (or don't do) is link to the homepage on each page of their site. i've gotten one of my sites to the #2 spot on Google for my main 3 keywords doing this.

Link exchange is a way to build up relationship between you and the other party:I don't see any problem for that.If this is a fact which mean we can leave comment any more on other's blog?

I have heard chatter about this also from friends in the industry. I also noticed that any links to my sites that are reciprocated on my links pages are no longer credited as backlinks by google.

It may affect your Google PR but not necessarily your search engine rankings (On Google and otherwise). PR is virtually dead because of the new changes they've made - it's just not as important as it used to be.

Do what works for you. If you're ranking well and you're above the fold on page 1 of the search results, who cares about PR.

I'm quite sure, that it isn't correct.

A webpage is given a sort of trust by Google (not the same as PageRank) from which it gives linkjuice to all links on it (both ingoing and outgoing) to improve those page's trust and Page Rank.

Of course, if your website is considered as a linkfarm or other "search engine spam", you will lose your trust and PageRank at the entire domain.

I don't say that you're wrong - just that it's hard to believe. I'm a SEOmoz Pro Member, and if it's true, I believe that it was announced there.

It is absolutely no secret that using TLA hurts your Google PR. Google that if you want, but beware of the bombardment of pissed of web-masters you'll encounter with those results. There was a huge stink about it not too long ago. I stopped following up on it because I think it's crazy to put all your eggs in one basket (the Google PR basket) - so why focus on it?

Plain link exchange and Top rankings no longer work.
    Banners and contextual linking do.
