well, except for the post right before mine, this thread is a good 6 months old and im sure most of the people who doubted the legitimacy of this have realized thier mistake by now. After a month or two after google changes its algo's, you can legitamately require articles to prove peoples claims. But when such changes recently happen, for the first couple weeks the so called 'insiders', the people who work in the top of the seo industry, tend to keep the details quiet until they optimize all of thier clients' pages. it sucks, but its true.
And for the more recent post right before mine, regular website articles and blogs arent the same to google. This has been known way long enough you can easily find many articles/blogs both explaining this. Articles have a tendancy to be favored by google in the short term, quickly getting indexed and good rankings, but in the long run after a matter of months, if website articles were competing equally for the search term, there is a good chance the article will take the leading spot unless the blogger actively tries to hold it. Permalink mods that solidly structure the blog's URL with the keywords seems to help establish it as well as a regular website article in time though, but that is just my observation, not backed on any solid proof.

    Stop link building...

In today's New Media World, link exchanges are too "old school" and just don't fit. People aren't coming to your blog to read the blogroll, instead they are coming to read the posts.

While building links you should always remember that websites you are linking to should be relevant. A search engine calculates the relevancy of a website by counting the back links pointing towards your website.

Linking with other sites is becoming an increasingly important way to generate traffic to your website.Quality information on a links page is the best long-term strategy to improve search engine ranking.

Always exchange links with web sites that are connected with your site's theme.

If a web site has a page rank of 4, it is more popular than one with a page rank of 20.
Try to exchange links with sites that have more traffic but you must be realistic also.

Quality and relevant back links help in both getting high page rank and improving ranking position.

Link exchanges are bad practice if you get out of hand. Link building is more than what you described and there are hundreds of ways to get one way links...you just have to work at it. Blogs are not being devalued in the least so long as you have great and unique content...there is no difference from a blog post to an article on your site. Your friends company who charges 1000 just to evaluate the site must have some of the dumbest clients in the world.

    Stop link building...

Link building is very essential in website promotion. Almost all the search engines have great importance for the link backs. But the link backs should be from your website related sites. Link backs are like online votes.

I’ve started some time ago adding links on some websites where I thought visitors of my target would be on. I’ve got rises on my site traffic, then I wouldn’t say links don’t work. Which cares is building a good strategy about it
