Getting lots of likes shouldn't be your goal. It's more about getting the right audience to like your page. Feature it prominently in your website etc. You can also run Facebook advertising campaign targeting your audience, this is easy and cheaper in Facebook compared to AdWords.
You can also try giving something away for liking your page. It could be a free report or something useful for your prospective clients. You usually need to create a Facebook app to do this, which is also relatively easy to do.

I would say an important word here is "target" audience. So, dont be disappointed with initial set backs - In fact you should be motivated by it to work better by planning better.Facebook is primarily a place for personal networking and brand building for some individuals and companies. You can take up as a case study any brandand see how they are trying to engage their audience. It helps for you to plan your Facebook presense. Please be sure that you will not get results immediately sometimes it takes even months, perseverance helps and if ulove what you do, it shouldnt be an problem at all.

There are over 900 million users on Facebook. Think about it - how many of those people fit in your niche? Can you get some of those people to like your page?

Facebook IMO is essential to any business, it engages and connects with fans. There are certain techniques to spread your business around, and you can advertise. it is very helpful

Well, I'd start by asking what is the point of getting Likes? In my opinion, it's so you can build a platform and relationship with your target audience, allowing you to thus continue building your brand and relationship with them, hopefully translating to monetary gain later down the line.

Therefore, you really don't want a bunch of friends who care nothing about what your biz does to be liking your page. It doesn't hurt anything, but it doesn't really help you either.

My business is very young and the biz FB page only has 65 likes as of now. It started out with some friends, but is increasingly being liked by people who are genuinely interested to hear what I have to say in my given space.

I think the key is consistently adding value. Someone has to want to hear what you have to say enough to want you showing up in their news feed. If what you're posting is nothing but self-promotion, you won't have many takers. Again, given that I've only got 65 likes, I'm definitely not an expert and would like to increase mine as well, but only if the people liking my page want to take an active role and join discussions, share, etc.

    Cheers!

Facebook can be a good reference where you can meet true people and introduce your site or you product in a more personal manner. Through friends' recommendations you will be able to have more exposure.

Great advise Nishadha, I would also add that you are more likely to have someone click your fb page from your site if they can "like" you without leaving your website. I found changing from an icon link to code that allows direct liking increased my following greatly.

    Hi Steve

I kind of like your point when you talk about adding value. Maybe just improvising on my business, will automatically have more people searching me and having interest on my updates. That is when the FB page will really work. I think I was trying to work the other way round, which wont really help. Thanks for your advice.

According to a new survey put out by Merchant Circle, 70 percent of all small businesses now market themselves on Facebook. This seems like a no-brainer.

I have two start-ups. Once is a business app, and the other is a consumer app.

In my experience, if your target audience is business then only a small percentage of your audience is actually on FB. They might lurk, but they are not your typical FB user. However, the same audience seems to be very active on LinkedIn. They are there networking and doing what business people do etc. So we started shifting our focus from FB to LI.

On the flip-side, my other start-up is for the consumer. FB seems to be much more effective with this audience. So it all depends on what you are selling.

How helpful is Facebook for a business?

    Hi

Now days SMO become most popular technique for getting traffic, sales etc. In social media site Facebook is better than other sites. In Facebook you can join groups, make friends, chat with them, promote your business, you can upload pics or videos of your products so that people can see them.

    Thanks.
