    Google Voice Review

Our company recently received an invitation to test Google Voice. Google Voice, is a Google application that allows users to have one phone number for their work phone, mobile phone, and home phone. This application is extremely useful to anyone who is constantly on the go, or any business in general. Having one phone number allows you to stay connected through the web and through all of your phones. Google Voice offers many surprising features, including:

ListenIn: This allows users to listen to voicemail messages before deciding to accept a call.

SMS: Send, receive, and store text messages, both online and on your phone.

Place Calls: Call free within the Continental United States.

Taking Calls: Answer on any of your phones.

These are just some of the features Google Voice offers. The true beauty of Google Voice is that it is a free service, and can easily simplify your phone usage. Having one phone number to give out to everyone is a lot easier than keeping track of many different numbers, and you can even pick your own phone number (including area code). This new application from Google, should be made public within a few months. If you need help setting such a service up, or would like more information, please feel free to e-mail me.

Hm, I might look into this later. It sounds interesting, but I'm not gonna act on anything for a while.

GVoice is a quality product. I see potential for businesses to use this as a way for employees to telecommute. What a great way to have phone support when the line goes directly to a particular employee, wherever they are. I have no idea if Google plans to implement that but it would be a huge opportunity. Not having to setup multiple phone line systems and have employees at arms length for clients/customers could be a huge benefit.

Only problem for businesses is that GVoice doesn't offer support or toll free numbers which are pretty important to businesses. Definitely a great free tool for one-man operations though. I will be interested to see if they expand the service.

I use google voice for my businesses. Its great! Google in general is great if you know how to take advantage of all their services.

For support, they offer it, you just have to find it by searching their forums.

For toll free, I use kall8.com and have the toll free number forwarded to my google voice number. I also use kall8.com for a toll free fax.

@Bodge4 - Sounds like you've figured out a good way to take advantage of it and integrate. How are the forums so far?

@Grasshopper - Are you talking about these forums? If so, I wish I had more time to contribute. I would love to be a business consultant. When I have time I try to give back what I have learned (sometimes the hard way).

@Bodge4 - I actually meant the Google Voice forums. Just curious as to how robust they are at this point. And don't we all wish we had more time :P

This is interesting! But I hope there'll be a voice conference in the future like in an IM.

GVoice needs to update its BlackBerry application. Very old school but is also very reliable.
