    The Advertising Business Model

I know a couple entreps who supposedly make a decent living from advertising on niche websites. One such entrep is Jon Waraas. He claims he will make close to $200k this year just from his network of websites. After examining his most popular site, Loseralliance, I'm a little skeptical. The website layout is so-so and there isn't much content. It's just full of ads. On the other hand, I know another entrep named Tyler Cruz. He has just a few websites but they are filled with great content. By the way, he claims he made $18k in 28 days. One such site is Pokerforums. Is it better to have a few websites that are rich in content or many sites with crappy content? Also, what are your thoughts on this business model?

Definately fewer websites with good content. That way, you're focused on making good, even great sites. There's a lot of people who go the "lot of crappy sites" route, but I just think in the long run its better to make sites about stuff you love.

If you're content is good - there's no need to open 234982345987 sites, right? Because one is driving the traffic/content and the ad revenue you're seeking, ya know!?

Good content - fewer sites. All you need is one. The question is what's your angle going to be?!

    Jon-

First off, this wasn't meant to bash you. Your content is sparse. You have roughly 35 myspace templates on your site. There are several sites that have way more...like http://www.freeweblayouts.net I was simply posing the question: What matters more: A few niche sites with quality content or many sites with minimal content?

I personally have one site I run advertising on. I have made up to $67 or so in one day. I haven't spend anytime on it and I still bring in cash. I don't even advertise it more because the lead writter doesnt want to work on it anymore due to college, work, and other issues.

Right now I'm working on my business and I will defiantly put advertisements on it. It's great money!

I would suggest, work on one site. Get it going with GREAT content and advertise it like hell! Once you do that and get fair income off of it stop working on it and go onto the next site. Even tho you are not working on that one anymore you'll still get hits and make money due to past advertisements and word of mouth.

Continue the cycle but don't get lost in 40 sites and not being able to remember your passwords or seeing if anyone hacked your accounts.

    Good luck!

well reid, lets put it this way....

Tyler makes $193 a day off his few websites with lots of content...

I make $1100 a day off 40 websites that have decent content on them...

Me personaly, I would pick the 1100$ a day. But it sounds like you guys would pick the 200$ a day, hehe

It depends on what your goal is. If your goal is just to make quick money then I would go with Jon's approach. But if you want to build a quality website and possible provide a service or give quality content, then sell it, I would go with a site with more quality content.

I personally think its all about money in the end, thats why we are all posting on here, and that why we do what we do.

I recently stumbled upon Patrick O'Keefe's network, the iFroggy Network. Compare his network to Jon Waraas' Developer Hut Network. I think you'll notice right away the differences. Although he may not make truckloads of money, his site looks professional and has great (original) content. This is just another example to further drive the question. Are you better off in the long run by building tons of so-so websites or just a few great ones?

I think you'll notice right away the difference in design skills and content. Although he may not make truckloads of money, at least his site looks professional and has great (original) content. But hey, that's just my opinion!

Nah. But hey, maybe I created some free publicity for the site owners? I'm sure they don't mind the extra visits to their websites. :-)

Side note: For those who don't know me well, I am direct and sometimes I can come off as being rude...I admit that. But at least I tell it like it is. Also, I always welcome constructive criticism.

Quality breeds loyal users, who then visit regularly, who will then click an ad most times after they've got bored on your site. Thats the way I look at it!
