    Selling Web Advertising

A new position has opened in my area for marketing banner ads and "links" from a website. The company has data on the average "hits" they get daily, weekly, etc.; however, the position would involve marketing the service in the form of advertising. Where could I get directions or examples of how to market this service?

be careful. Banner advertising is horrible with very few exceptions. The average clickthrough rate is now something like .5% or worse. Sell something you can stand behind. Test based ads are a little better because they don't seem to annoy people quite as much. You can also put more of them on a page because they take up so little bw/space.

Check out companies like fastclick, doubleclick, valueclick, etc to see what this is all about. poindexter.com has some pretty good technologies, but you're kind of selling something worthless nonetheless, so ..... if this site is COMLETELY visited by locals (like 75% or more) you can maybe do a little better because you can advertise companies people will recognize and be able to associate with better, so there's some kind of local branding recognition already, but it's hard to explain to anyone what good it is to pay $100/mo for 6000 impressions by 150 different people.

    [edit] it's not poindexter.com, it's r4u.com or something, but it's called poindexter technologies.[/edit]
It's not easy - life - is not easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it.
