Looking for affiliates - which is the best and most thorough?

I am in the process of filling up advertising space on my site. I want to go with an affiliate for now until my hits are high enough to enable me to go another route. I have seen some affiliate banner and this leads to me to question how you know which advertisers you are getting? I don't want to get porn site or gambling sites on my webpage.
So is there a reputable affiliate advertiser that has great links, checks over websites before they agree and has excellent returns? (I know it is alot to ask!)
