    Cricket Advertising

    Heya.

My partner and I have a cricket information website that gets 8 million hits per month. We'd like to turn some profit from this site, naturally. We've tried google adsense, but results are pathetic. We applied to yahoo's version of adsense recently, but I don't think it will be much better.

I need to figure out what kind of business would pay good money to reach 8 million cricket readers per month. I am considering sports/merchandise, but I'm not so sure. If you have any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    The site is www.planetcricket.net.

    Thanks.
    Joe

Their is website called www.adbrite.com that you can sign up with to sell ad space. You set your prices and the site gets 25% you get the rest. This might be easier because advertisers come to you instead of you searching for them.

Thanks for the advice. We actually have plans to speak with the gentleman who has playcricketonline.com, but not in a paid advertising sense. A service like his is too complimentary to our site.

Yahoo's version of adsense supposedly has much better results than google's so that is definately worth a shot. Donations seem to be pretty popular as well and it is becoming more of an acceptable stream of income.

To increase your revenue, you might want to check the placement of your ads. Placement is crucial and if your adsense is buried where users aren't seeing it, that could be your problem. It seems to be much more popular to place ads in the middle of articles, or in the middle of forum threads to increase visibility.

I checked out your site. It looks like you have quite a bit of advertising on it already. Is this recent or is it just not paying you enough? I would agree with the donation suggestion. Put a donation button in a prominent position on the website. Have you looked into subcriber fees much? I would start offering a premium service for a couple bucks per month that allows access to a few special features.

you should utilise your adsense better, integrate it within the posts (after the second reply or something like that) with that many visitors/page views you should be retiring soon.
Also you could sell maybe 10-20 sitewide links in the footer and charge a monthly fee.

(of course 1 of them will be donated to me as a gentlemens agreement. )
