Anyone drive traffic to their site via affiliate programs?

i was wondering if anyone has been on the merchant end of affiliate programs. That is, has anyone ever enrolled in an affiliate program with the idea of bringing traffic to their site. If so, 1. How well did this work and 2. did it cost much to become involved?
If you've had success what sites did you use.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Hey Matt,

I can't say that I have ever done this personally, but I know of many sites that are pretty much dedicated to it, and it is BRILLIANT! They clame to be "deal" sites, for online shoppers, but it is obviouse that they have affiliations with Amazon, Overstock and Dell and many others. Really, an amazing idea and I wish I had thought of it.

    Check out these sites:

    http://www.dealsofamerica.com/
    http://www.mybargainbuddy.com/
    http://www.slickdeals.net/

A lot of book buying websites are all about affiliations as well, such as this:
