Affiliate businesses provide you with an opportunity to make money. It is not necessarily a job. As an affiliate, you will operate your own website to promote and sell products for a particular business. For every sale that you make, you will earn a commission(a percentage usually) of that sale. The more sales made, the more income generated obviously. It does of course take some time but with the right marketing strategies and some patience, you will start seeing some results. You can view my website to see some available programs if you like. Go to my profile and click on my homepage to see some proven programs and get a little better idea of what best suit you. I think the key for all affiliate programs is to match the program to the website. If you have a website about cats, then you should be showing affiliate ads for cat related products or products cat lovers would want.

eBay has a pretty good affiliate program. I use it with the BANS script and phpBay. Those programs help you set up a website that lists eBay auctions. Then when someone clicks on an auction and buys something, you get a cut of eBay's revenue. In addition, I have ads on the sites for related products and make a cut from those.

There is some good info at cj.com/publishers.

With affiliate programs you get paid for referring someone to a product if they purchase the product. You get a commission! Some people have businesses based only on affiliate sales and others use affiliates sales in addition to their own product sales by referring their customers and potential customers to products they believe they would find of interest. You can check out our affiliate program though this link as an example: DropShipping Wholesalers - Your One Stop For DropShipping Wholesale Resources
    Hope this helps

The other trick to affiliate marketing is to purchase up domains that are typos of a website for a product or service that are foreseeably going to get popular, and then parking subscription based affiliate websites that are related to it on them.

Like the guy's over at ituns.com. It's a typo of itunes.com, but they seem to be offering something similar, so the curious will naturally go have a looksee.
Get a dozen sales/conversions a day, and you can live off it.
