affiliate marketing - how does it work?

I keep hearing alot about affiliate marketing and such, and have worked with clients to help seo their website so that they get more traffic to convert for their affiliate websites.

However, from all the affiliate website's I've seen, not one of them have enticed me to make a purchase anywhere. Even if I was actively searching for something to buy.

Are there any affiliate gurus here who can give me (us in terms of the whole forum) some pointers as to how YOU personally make affiliate marketing work?

    Hello

Affiliate companies can be somewhat rather shady. It all depends on who you use.

One company I know of and trust as well as recommend is Clickbank.com

They not only provide secure payment facilities (similar to paypal) but they also offer you the chance to sell other products as an affiliate and earn as much as 75% guaranteed.

I am currently doing this and have made a lot of money.

Hi. I understand what you mean - there are a lot of bad sites out there. However, this is only mine and your opinion. I know many people (as the other poster said) that have made a lot of money out of selling CB products.

Many of the CB sites do follow the 'Joe Vitale' Hypnotic Writing style, which I agree, doesn't really do much for me. However, it does work for a lot of people, which is why there are so many Wealthy Affiliates.

Another option for affiliate marketing would be to sell very well recognised brands (ebay, Capital One, HSBC, etc..) that you find in a place such as Commission Junction (cj.com). You don't get as higher percentage commission with some products, but they can sell well.

The key to affiliate marketing is doing your research. Make sure you really identify your target market and get inside their heads and learn how they think. Too many people think they can select a product off CB with a high gravity, throw up a few Adwords and just sit back and watch the money roll in.

    cheers.

Click bank consists mainly of ebooks rights? I still don't understand why people purchase ebooks however if clickbank still exists i'm sure it means that people are actually interested in that.

I think i would be abit more interested in commission junction than clickbank though. Has anyone had success with comission junction?

    CJ's tracking is horrendous.

I used to do stuff with Azoogle made a couple thousand every couple months then I got really busy so I don't do that as much.

It was in Decemberish and I was promoting ringtones. You don't really have to sell anything with that, just some girl pointing to a box that says PUT YOUR PHONE # HERE.

For the same reason why books (without the 'e') have been popular for centuries. People like reading, they crave information and want to expand their knowledge. Of course, this is for 'information based' texts. Criteria would be different for a novel/thriller/romance.

I've just sold two ebooks already today, making $30 in commission, so it does work. As I say, the key is finding the right product and then targeting it correctly.

I've had success with CJ too, but I'm not currently running any campaigns on their at the moment.

CblickBank not only consits of only ebooks. It does contain software's and more specifically downloadbledigital products. There are around 20000 high demand products in Clickbank Marketplace. You can browse the different categories of its marketplace.

On that note i have recently started promoting an ebook - that lays out how one guy went from zero to $15,000(i think) a month in 90 days using 5 simple steps. The ebook is nine dollars and pays a comission of $7 and anyone who buys the ebook automatically is granted an affiliate site and can turn around and promote the ebook and earn these same commisions - i made $154 in my first 48 hours with these guys and that was without blasting to my list at all!it came solely from unique traffic I was getting one sale for about every 25 clicks. it is at: http://www.ninebuck.com

    Wink affiliate marketing

I bought an ebook that offered a free website that I am now using for affiliate marketing. This book is good so I am promoting it on my website for commission.
The Author claimed that she made $12,000 in 3 months. All the links I needed to build and market my site was in it.
I only just established my site and I have accounts with Clickbank, Linkshare and Community Junction. All these I got from her book. My point is that a good ebook on affiliate marketing will list for you things like legitimate affiliates, list free link and free article directories that have no red flag against them, free PR websites. The author also has a support site for questions.
I only just started and would like feedback from you about my site.
Would you buy something from my website for instance?
    Constructive criticism welcome.
    My site is http://www.smahi.com

    I use cj.com and clickbank.com. Linkshare.com is also good.
