Advertising ideas

I have a great idea for which I have developed a business. I have a web-site that is getting some good traffic, but is very slow in sales. I sell similar items on Ebay, and my sales are pretty good. The problem is Ebay margins are slim due to all the fees and competition.

I have looked into targeted emails, link exchanges, banner ads, pop-ups, etc. I would really like some insight as to the best method to advertise an online business.
