This is my collection of short reviews of current advertising networks on the internet. Please note this does not include affiliate programs where you select the ads you run, but rather CPM and CPC ads that are selected by the ad network.

Also please note I still own copyright over this article. I will be publishing it on a new site I am making with my domain ad-reviews.com.



Glossary:

CPM - Cost Per Thousand Ad Views. The M is from roman numerals. It is the amount the advertiser pays for a thousand views of their ads.

eCPM - Effective Cost Per Thousand Ad Views. This is the amount you get for a thousand ad views after the ad network has taken it's share.

CPC - Cost Per Click, the amount you get per click. eCPC is not talked about much as most ad networks dealing in CPC show the CPC as what you get, not what the advertiser paid.


Notes: eCPMs are current averages for my sites or sites that I know of.

Fastclick is a very good adnetwork, always paying on time and has some nice eCPMs. Highly recommended. From 1000 visitors a day you can earn about $100 a month from fastclick. They have the best serving technology and the user interface is very good. Stats update hourly.

Casale are a very new network, but have gained very good reviews from people using them, and their popups are only matched by fastclick. The interface is good, but not as good as fastclicks.

Your Share Of Ad Costs: Unknown, some people think it is about 40%.
Payment: Cheque
Min Requirements: None
Ad Types: Too many to list, all pay the same CPC as the other format. Different ads on will pay different CPCs (EG Debt Consolidation CPCs might be $5 while game site CPCs might be $0.02)
Google is a great network and you can earn loads if you make your ads look like part of your content. A word of warning though, a lot of webmasters have been banned from the network for clicking their own ads and some have had money taken off them. Do not click your own ads, I find it hard not to do it accidentally some times because of the relevancy of them but I have managed to stop myself. The ads are targeted to your sites content.

Name: Azoogle Ads Blue Time

Founded: 2004 (They have been doing an affiliate network for years, but the CPM network started in 2004)

Min Requirements: Changes often
Ad Types:

• 728x90 Banners - eCPM $0.50
• More, but it's in Beta and new ones are added all the time, I will keep you updated on my website about ad networks when it is completed

After years of being in the industries eyes the best affiliate network azoogle have expanded to be an ad network too. The interface is OK and the support is excellent (I've always talked to the head of the company despite them employing around 20 people).
PLEASE NOTE: Blue Time is still in Beta and azoogle say that the CPM will be higher than competitors within a few months of official launch. CPMs are individual to your site and based on the actions users do, so your CPM will start low and get higher as more users buy stuff from the advertisers.

Ad Types:

• 728x90 & 468x60 Banners - eCPM $0.50
• 120x600 or 160x600 Skys - I don't know
• Pop Ups - Combined with banners so I don't know, but about $2.00 is a good estimate.
• More ones, but they aren't worth doing.

Burst is not as popular as it once was, with CPMs lower than before, but they are still a good network to get into. The interface is not the best to be very kind to them.

Name: Tribal Fusion

Payment: Cheque
Min Requirements: 1000 Visitors a Day - Very high quality site
Ad Types:

• 728x90 & 468x60 Banners - Site-To-Site, but higher than competition
• 120x600 & 160x600 Skys - Site-To-Site, but higher than competition
• Pop Unders - Site-To-Site, but higher than competition except fastclick and casale.
• More ones, but I have no information on those.

Tribal Fusion has high rates because they only take on the best of the best sites. I can't get in with my sites with high enough traffic because they are not good categories for advertisers. I WILL get at least one site in within a year though so I will be able to provide more details then other than info I can get from other publishers.

It looks like the ad industry has had a bit of a bounce back, of course, you have to do it with full-screen ads and pop-ups. The days of old are no more...

What about linkshare? They have the best advertisers by far. You earn a percent of the sales too. Also in bidclix, you earn about $0.20 a click. That's by far teh most. On some of my clicks for bidclix.com, I've earned 40 cents! MSN even uses bidclix.com. I dont' like their ads personally. They are all scams like "Free $50".

Is anyone out there actually making money from an ad network which they can honestly say is enough to run a business on?

I know the really big guys are, but if you are big enough I can't see why you wouldn't just cut the middle man out and get your own targetted advertisers...that's what I did.

I used to own this hobby site - www.mtgparadise.com - which over time grew popular enough to support advertisers. I used a few networks but none made anything significant (although I think google adsense is good). Then I just went and asked business that would be interested in targeting my audience and got them as sponsors. Doing this I made about $500 a month compared to the $10 on ad networks.

Yes I'm barely making 50 cents a day on teh ad networks. I tried sending out letters, to about 10 businesses, and no real replies. When is a website big enough for asking for sponsors? I currently use google adsense, but I'm not liking it. I really want to use sponsors instead of ad programs, but I don't know when to ask around. My website is www.teenpoint.net and the forum is exploding in growth, is it big enough or should I wait? Thanks.

Should you wait?

Well that depends on whether you can offer advertisers any value. If you think your audience will buy/register/whatever enough to make it worth while then sure, get some advertisers.

I found as soon as I had one or two advertisers on my site that sort of legitimised the site in the eyes of other business and they started contacting me to advertise. Of course you still need to provide good results too.

Check out your site stats, see how many unique visitors and page views you can offer each month. Present this data to a business that directly targets the market you service and sell them some adspace.

But most importantly, keep adding value to your users. The best way to get more ad revenue is to build the best site you can and always innovate to build a bigger audience - try hiring volunteer writers to build up content, write articles yourself if you have to, add new sections. Just make sure you are having fun while doing all this

What do you think about http://www.click-share.com/ ? A friend told me about them. They have really nice and _well paid_ product ads and are

available for publishers with users outside US, UK etc. I know a guy in India that is using them and he is really satisfied

I've been using them for 3 months and everything seems to be ok.

well what about yahoo? well all in the end which PPC pays the most, the way adsense use to be back in the day? that is really the question right? which PPC pays more? because are you not trying ot live off the earnings from PPC, the way adsense use to be? or is? depends how u look at it

but all in all I would like to know which PPC pays more than the rest
