Affiliate Programs

I just want to say that if you're not from a 3rd world country, don't bother signing up to an affiliate program. They pay out chump change if they pay out at all more. It's really funny. What they do is set an amount of $50 before they'll pay you which you will never get to in awile or if you do, your account will mysteriously be deleted. They basically love all the traffic because they can charge advertisers good money and give their actual MLM users chump change. If you want to get in on that business, I suggest you start an AP, not join one!

That entire statement is far too general. There are several good paying affiliate programs and alot of people making lucrative returns as a result of them. With anything in life, you have to work hard. Picking a good affiliate program is also key.

I think affiliate programs can be lucrative if you have a niche audience with an affiliate program to match. You have to search for good affiliate programs with high payout percentages instead of going to ones that everyone else uses and the ones that pay next to nothing.

No actually, i've never owned or even participated in an affiliate program. I'm just not ignorant

Since we're here making insinuations; you tried an affiliate program and failed at it, correct?

GunshySlycat1,
This is the most ridiculous statement on affiliate marketing I have heard in a long time, thanks for the laugh. I work closely with thousands of affiliates that make thousands a month...just because you can't persevere & learn what it takes doesn't make the entire industry unethical.

These statements come from MLM'ers as well, the ones that fail.

On a positive note: If you are willing to turn your attention to yourself and make the changes necessary to see yourself through a project, I would be happy to pass on some of my knowledge to you!

Affiliate programs are a great idea. I personally make a nice little recurring income every month from some affiliate programs.

If you pick the right program, expecially ones that pay 2 tier, you can't go wrong.

The problem isn't the affiliate program, it is the person promoting it.

No affiliate program will work if it isn't promoted properly.

I second Karens motion. Affiliate marketing is a good way to make some extra cash. And all you have to do is sale the products. I would personally recommend only selling digital products (ie. ebooks, software) The best company to use for that is clickbank. You don't need to build a web page or anything.

How can anyone generalize an entire industry? Just like everything else there is a spectrum.

I agree that affilaite marketing doesn't work:

1) You can't control the prices of the products. If your competition sells for less, you are finished.

2) The products or services might not have any market.

3) You lack freedom to advertise. Search engines do not like affiliate links and neither do customers.

4) Some Merchants refuse to pay their affiliates.

5) You can't add products or services if a customer demands it.

Some may have made money in affiliate marketing but it's better to be the merchant yourself where you have full control over aspects of the business. Just make sure to keep your business as professional as the merchants you were affiliates for.
