Hey George,
The names Newton,
Saw you around the forums in a few threads and you mentioned you use eBay to sell your cloths? May I ask do you think eBay charges alot of fee's for the service you use?
I'm only asking as in trying to start up a company that will hopefully put a uk based firm back on the Market for online auction and Market places.
Our main key points are towards the sellers and only to adopt a 8% fee at the end of a sale so, if you don't sell you don't pay attitude rather then to eBays fee policies.
Would sellers like you be interested in such site (we also had looked into mass seller accounts with perks such as 2-5% sellers fee and a monthly fee depending how much you sell for example if you sold upto 100items a month you would be charged a 2% fee instead of a 8% and a monthly subscription of let's say £15?)
I too am looking for investment but as I have the same sort of problem as most people asking for funding at 19/20. This can make it difficult.

Hi Newton.
I actually saw your site on crowdcube a few days ago and had a look.
You need a clear USP for both buyers and sellers.
New fees mean that the final fee for technology is just 3% so tech sellers wouldn't move.
eBay has millions of visitors which is necessary for good sales.
eBay is easy to use, a household name and nearly everyone is familiar with PayPal and the security that comes with it.
But I do think there is a gap in the market.
More and more sellers are leaving eBay due to fees.
You need a very clear fee structure, and if fees are your USP then they will need to be significantly lower than eBay's fees.
Hi George,
Sorry I dont think I mentioned it clear enough, Yes true that some tech final fee's are only 3% but this is only limited to items which eBay wants people to sell more of.
The 3 % does not include the Insert fee and If you just have a bare advert then thats all you pay which is normally £1.60, But your out to sell so you want the best chances for you item so that means extra Image fee (as only the first couple are free), even having Bold costs like £0.25, having a reservation fee now cost money when it never used to and having a buy it now also charges you and on top of that you have your sellers account fee to pay off at £5-6.
I remember in 2008 I sold my macbook for about £700 I was charge £73 that was final valuation fee at 10% and a £3 charge for advert fee's ok that was not bad then but now its ridicules, doing exactly what I did in 2008 I tried to sell my new macbook pro on eBay using the same format as I did only last week and was charged £22 for the insert fee and the final valuation fee was 10% of the item which i finally sold for £800 to some guy at Uni.
But yes our main point at oolag is to only charge a maximum of 8% of the final value of the item sold and thats all you every pay! And if you sell in bulk its a reduced fee up to 2% so meaning more money for the sellers.
People sell to make a living not to make a loss right? So we are not trying to take advantage of that, eBay is an American company taking advantage of the UK market its time for a UK site to stand up to the mark.
The only site I know in the uk that does online auctions is eBid.net which has been out longer then eBay and tbh I dont think its that great as the strategy seems to be make as much money in the short run rather then the long run. The reason for this is that they want to charge a £99 one off fee to have lifetime fee free sales which I highly doubt that someone is going to risk £100 for a site with no guarantee.
But we are not launching a site just on the basis that eBay over charges on its fee's we do have many other USP's that will make this a fair fight from the buyers prospective and the sellers.
I've been on eBay since 2005 and since then I have never seen a discount code or any rewards for sellers or buyers! all I ever got was a losy golden star! we also want to reward our customers with things you see such as discount codes fee free sales ect.. you know the ones that always appear at the end of a auction or a sale but you seem to never have a code to enter into the box?
Anyway I want to thank you for the feedback but it still does not answer my question to you, would you as a seller move to a new platform that was cheaper then ebay and made sure if you did not sell you would not pay a penny, as well as getting rewarded for selling with us every time you sold a item?
Newton
Thanks for clarifying.
I think the don't-sell-don't-pay feature is great would definitely attract all sellers as they would have nothing to lose.
I would definitely move to a new platform. Please let me know when the site is up and running.
However, if their is a lack of buyer traffic and my none of my items were selling then I could see myself and other sellers losing interest very quickly.
I'd be happy to answer further questions or provide any advice you need.
I've sent you a PM.
Ebay has that all important ingrediant Traffic, other sites have tried to emulate Ebay and failed, yes you may have to pay for it but it does give you a instant shop window to your product or services and to me that is what its all about.
