What is the best e-commerce software?

I am looking to start an e-commerce website that will sell over 40,000+ different products. Does anyone know a a really good online store software that allows for complete customization.

I am really looking for something that compares to amazon.com, fye.com, or bn.com in the way it is set-up and product information.
Particularly a search for the site, product categories, etc.

Thanks for the help.

How about this:
- Built-in hosting
- Easy-to-use Wizard to build your store
- Instant site preview
- Accept credit cards, PayPal? and more
- Multiple shipping options including real-time processing with UPS? and USPS?
- Order & Inventory management
- Shipping & Tax calculators
- Shopper registration & login
- Product promotion options
- Advanced product search
- Customer and Merchant order notification email
- Comprehensive Sales, Order & Tax reports
- Excel? Import/Export

If that sounds good to you I recomend CyFocus QuickShoppingCart

There are thousands of companies who have that exact deal though.

If you plan on offering that many products, I think you should pay a designer to make you a customized solution. Having a cheap cart isn't a good idea if you plan on having that mahy products because it'd be hard to manage such a big amount. www.intershop.com is a more professional cart and is used by www.actionvillage.com which houses there own inventory, and have ALOT of products.

Somethingmore customzed would allow your designer to build an way to effective organize and manage such a big selection.
