Thinking of starting a food e-commerce site

I was just toying with the idea of selling high-quality gourmet ingredients online. My target market would be aspiring chefs or hobbyists with some extra money. I want to start out with a specific type of food, then expand outwards to capture other markets. Is this a good idea or not?

I ask because it seems like you are just throwing an idea out there.

The best bet is to identify a niche market with active buyers, then build your business around that.

Most chefs I have seen (we have many cooking programs on the TV here in the Netherlands), rather hand-pick their food. Granted, that is for their work, but nevertheless that would be something to take into consideration.

The only thing I have bought online food-wise, is BBQ meat, which we picked up at a local butcher. But that butcher is part of a chain that is very well respected.

Selling food online would not be my first choice. But hey, maybe that's what makes the idea work well, that not everyone is inclined to do it!

I agree with Absinth for all above tips plus I can say after considering all this you must do SEO for you site to get recognize by all search engines so you will get more traffic on site and it leads in final sales from your online stores.
