Secure Sites and SSL

Hey,

Anyone who has experience with SSL and secure sites care to put me in the right direction? I'm contemplating going with Verisign because of the name recognition. Also, is 40 bit encryption enough or do I need to go 128 or 256?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

I use thawte...it's not nearly as expensive as Verisign, and it still does the job...of course, you're right Verisign has really good name recognition.

The encryption I guess depends on what you're doing...I think 128 is fine.

edit: by the way...When you're making your websites, you have to leave the "www" out of all your image sources/paths on a secure page, because it will conflict with the "https://" ...just a word of warning because it's really a pain having to go through all your pages and checking all your paths again...the find/replace function on dreamweaver comes in handy

Michael,

One other option is to check with your hosting company to see what sort of SSL package they offer if any. Many will offer a private 128/256 SSL at a huge discount as long as you do business through them. With my ecommerce site, I was able to save over $200 on my Comodo SSL that way.

Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure I do that NorKal, I already have ModRewrite on so I hope they're all pointing in the right direction.

Anyone else know their prices for a year?

Comodo is the CA that we use for SSLs. You might check out Which SSL for some more information as well.
