If they have a billing address in NY, have the applicable sales tax added to the total.

This is not legal or any other professional advice:
You'll need to check the applicable state statute to determine which sales require the addition of a sales tax.
This is purely speculation, but I have always seen is that sales tax is only charged where the purchaser is a resident of the state in which the company does business. For example, if you're a NY company only, and someone in WA gets online and purchases a product, you wouldn't charge sales tax. However, if you have a physical location in WA also, you would need to.
Anyone else have an opinion?

Lol. Because it is against the law to offer legal advice without a license. Don't you think it's a bit wise to offer a disclaimer just as a precaution?

I'm just plain confused. Point is, the original poster should do a little legal research or hire an attorney so as to comply with the law.
