Retail Site creation and prices for accepting credit cards

Hello Everyone,
I am new to this site and want to start off by saying how excited I am to find this site. It is so nice being able to talk to so many like minded people. I have a feeling that people get annoyed by me bringing up business ideas all of the time.

Anyways, I am planning on opening an online retail store for my clothing company "Oddi-T". I am not very technically inclined but I am trying to learn. I am just wondering the approximate costs for starting up and maintaining a website can accept credit cards, and every other method of payment of course. I have website up for a book I am creating ( www.confessionsofapartier.com ) but it is not a merchant site. I had that one made for $200Can. I am not even sure if that is a good deal, but I have a feeling it was a decent price. (please feel free to post a story)

If any one could help me in this area it would be much appreciated.

This may be a shot in the dark, but if there are any web designers just starting out and are willing to work for less. I would be happy to post an advertisement for your company in exchange for a discount price. I know that everyone will say this but I really expect the traffic flow to my site to really blow up in a short amount of time due to already having many eager customers ready to buy my product all over Canada.

Thanks again, I love this site
