prototype of my website. feel free to tear it apart.

Okay all,Im done with my homepage and logo, minus a few centering adjustments and stuff..It looks a little plain but I like it alot...Please feel free to tear it apart and let me know how I can make it better...

I got the idea from my travel agent for a contest for spring break next year..I buy 12 tickets from her every year to goto spring break.,this year she gives me 12 and 2 for free.So i threw 2 tickets and paid vacation into a contest...Again this is the prototype of just my homepage...In my opinion its way better than my last design, hehe.

Let me know what you think.

looks a lot better then it did.

i don't like the animated graphic of the rabbit and the bee hive. i think if you're going to brand it as a Playboy jewelry site then you should have a playboy logo there (not sure if that is legally allowed).

No I cant put the Playboy bunny logo in or near my name at all,its a copyright infringement....Beleive me this is the best logo I have had so far..I really like it so its stays until my artist is done with the final(it wont animate). Its simple and cute like the website supposed to be.

Looks very professional, but try to give it more color. The Grey works, but it needs an accompanying color. I use orange and grey on my site. I like the red, try to work with that.

Maybe make to top the the page text a red color, or replace it with a banner picture.

I also notice you are doing it in html only. This will make editing any banners or colors and/or adding links to all pages very difficult and time consuming. Try to learn a bit of php, and use include scripts.

No.

It doesn't work.

I wouldn't buy. Would you?

You seriously need to examine other site's with similar products.

I would be extremely surprised if a single person makes a purchase out of 2000 unique visitors, simply because of the design.

Seriously, would you buy from your site? Really ask your self this.

The only advice and best advice anyone can give you at this point is, since you have been a power seller on ebay since 1997 as you said, then you should be able to afford a professional web designer.

If not, start completely over from scratch, only after you see what your competitors are doing.

Example.

It's clean, vivid, striking, inviting and professional.

Your's is jagged, rough, bland, ghetto and circa 1996.

All opinions are based on comparison to a similar subject, that is how I based mine.

So before you do anything, compare your's to others.

I know I can be mean and direct,

but I don't beat around the bush or say things you want to hear.

Just what is.

Yeah, building your own website is extremely time consuming and hard, especially if you don't have experience with code like php or asp. Simple html will make you life nightmare. My site is fully coded in ASP

Take a look, and you will see what I mean. www.lp-optics.com/

Notice everything is programmed to work seamlessly and smoothly. This is What you need.

my product links look like this:

Code:
http://www.lp-optics.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=18&HS=1
While yours will end up looking like this:

Code:
http://www.honeysplayboybunnies.com/products/rings/product_ring001.html

You will need to do all of that by hand, while mine is all automated. I host with www.monstercommerce.com pro package, if you are wondering.

I understand and thanks..I took a bit from your example already as if you couldnt tell,lol...Its also where I got my last background..I understand where your comming from, but I have to stay away from that design,I have already been warned.I have looked at my competition,I took a little from all and made it my own..But yes I agree to lighten it up with a different color like that..The grey is really, really blah,by itself...

About the afford a web designer. I can, but I wont pay 5-30 grand for something i can do my self. I dont care if it takes me 10 months to learn, that I will, lol. You guys have helped a lot, thats why I come here.

I didnt wanna go pink again. My last design was pink and it why I changed it to begin with lol. What colors besides pink would brighten this up? Do you like the layout? I drew it up on paper after I got some ideas from other sites selling similar stuff. I think it looks good minus the jagged edges and unaligned stuff(but its a prototype)

I didnt use any html, I been using yahoo site builder and photoshop css. Is this wrong? The guy at the store said it was the best software I could get unless I wanted to buy a mac.

Anyway,hope to hear more
Thanks for all your ideas,it got me this far.

You are on the right track. You can get affordable ecommerce solutions, where all you need to do is edit the feel if you store and upload your products like i mentioned above. I'm paying $100 a month for mine, and its very nice. It literally saved me months.

Generally site-bulders are very limited in their abilities to create quality sites. If you ask me I'd only use one if I were a 10 year old kid making a fan site of my favorite cartoon character.

If you insist on making your own site, I would suggest Dreamweaver 8 or higher, or something like Microsoft Frontpage. I personally do not like Frontpage because if it's limitations. I also strongly suggest learning about php and how it cam make your life easier.

Keep on working hard.
