Merchat account

Does anyone know of a credit card merchant account that is free top setup with no fees what so ever until you start making sales with them. I know I will have to pay a percentage of the changes to the company every time I use them but was hopping there was somewhere where everything is free except charges for using them for charges. I really want o be able to accept more then paypal and checks. Thank you in advance for any information.

Hi,

Merchant accounts are never free in the way that you're hoping for, sadly. If you need help getting set up we're an authorized reseller of the Authorize.Net Internet Payment Gateway. You can use their merchant account, or get your own through your local bank. (It may be cheaper to get your own.)

Would everyone agree that I should be able to take credit cards and not just checks or paypal? This is for an online pet supply store.

Oh I almost forgot. If I go with "2checkout" do I need to get an ssl certificate or is that all handled on their site. I do want to be sure that all transactions are secure. One little mess up and I could be done for.

Online merchants are as strange as they come. When I was looking into merchant accounts online I could not get over how tacky and unprofessional their websites were. It was almost as if they were a member of the uglywebpages.com fraternity.

In any event, I ended up going with PayPal Pro Merchant as they were compatible with my Miva Shopping Cart service I had already purchased. At the time of purchase PayPal had a promotion going along the lines of 3 months no charge but it may have been longer. Either way, PayPal was a great choice in my opinion and is very easy to maneuver. I highly recommend it for any first time e commerce business owner.

ecommerce exchange

All merchant accounts have some type of fee with the start, but I know of how you can get the setup fee and activation fee waved. The company I work for has worked with ecommerce exchange for the past few years. We have stayed with them because of their great support to any of our members and because we are both very familiar with the open source carts used by many of our common members...and as such they have granted any new members who use them free setup and activation for their merchant account. You do NOT need to use our services at all to take advantage of this...which is why i thought i would post the information here ....they have extended the special to anyone who finds them from the our main page, so just got to inventorysource.com/merchantaccount.html
