Marketing Strategy Question
I recently decided on starting my own ecommerce business. I am in the process of trying to pick out a name for my company, but more specifically, I am trying to find a decent url.
I build nice, mid-level poker tables that retail for around $500 each. I want my ecommerce site to revolve primarily around the tables, though I do plan to offer poker chips, playing cards, etc through a dropshipping program.
Poker tables are quite heavy and rather expensive to ship. I imagine (possibly incorrectly) that the majority of my orders will come locally (within 100 mile of the metro area that I live).
My question: would I be better served to get an url like chicagopokertables.com or something like qualitypokertables.com?
My thoughts are that if I go with a "location-centric" name, people doing searches on the web for "poker tables in Chicago" will pull up my site. Am I hurting myself because there might be people who live in Houston who might want my product, but won't be able to find me?
If I go with something like "qualitypokertables.com" or "purplepokertables.com", I could build a brand around the name. This would attract potential customers from all over, but it would likely make it more difficult for "locals" to find me?
What would you do?
There are a lot of bright minds on this board. I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.

I personally would suggest that you use a brand-centric name, as in the long run this has the potential to create more value for your work. Secondly, I wouldn't (and I'm not suggesting for one moment that you are) center your focus on getting local interest through just internet searches. Don't be afraid to go out there, product flyers, advertise in local press, create traffic through other means.

Go with the more generic one. You can deal with local stuff when you create your content. Make sure you pick "Chicago poker tables" (or wherever) as one of the terms you optimize for. Having the name in the domain is good, but in this case it could do more to hurt your business, so you should rely on other SEO practices to push yourself locally. Don't forget about local search engines!

Yeah, get something which you can brand i guess, like pokero! lol, getting "quality poker tables" sounds like a url your meant to come across to see you spammy stuff.

I'd suggest doing a bit of ground work up front before coming up with a name.
You need to look at what your market appeal is. You are building $500 pool tables, why will they be purchased? Will they be purchased because they are a good balance between quality and pirce? How will you convice your cusotmers the quality IS better? What else will motivate a potential customer? Is there a typical pool player? Where do pool players congregate?
If you answer these questions effectively I think a good name will come to you, but you have to know who and what you're going after!

500 bucks, wow. Thats expensive for someone who wants to play poker on the weekends. If its very high quality, rename it the "PokHer Table". After a long night of poker, you can poke her on it...Thats the only thing that would sell me(sex does sell and very well). For 500 bucks,I want an example of how its better than a cheaper priced table. Is it strudy enough to pokher on it? I'd buy one if you could sell me on how strong the table was, but then again, why would I want a really expensive and strong pokher table to pull out on the weekends, instead of the fold up model I can buy cheaper? Maybe rethink your marketing plan unless your looking to patent something.
