LF: Payment solution.

Hello,

I am new around here, and to be honest I am quite impressed with the community thus far. I plan on contributing a bit more, once I dip my feet in the ocean.

I have a few problems with getting my business running. I have not come across a decent payment solution in Canada. I am not going to use Paypal as I have had previous encounters with them which I wouldn't say made for the best of times. If all goes as planned, I will be handling some pretty large orders as I have a pretty good product to sell to a large demographic but at the same time I don't want high costs associated with billing and payments. I am looking for something around 5% for processing fees and has a good API for integrating the solution into my website. (I am tech savvy with two years of Computer Science under my belt, so it doesn't have to be an easy integration solution but I would prefer php integration opposed to asp - who likes Microsoft anyway?)

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

I'm getting ready to switch from PayPal to Google Check Out... I can't speak from experience.. but I'm hoping Google's product will be better then PayPal.

Most large commercial banks offer their own payment processing systems. Chase's Paymentech (I think that's what it is calleD) is one of the biggest. I bet some Canadian banks would have a similiar offering.

Thanks for the all the responses - but one question, is google checkout available in Canada? As far as I know, it's not yet available. Apparently, they don't see us as a very large market - however, I find it rather odd as the e-commerce market in Canada is growing rapidly (From 2006, to 2007 Canadian e-commerce sales were doubled too $4.7 billion) and I can only assume the trend will continue, that is if recession doesn't have an impact.
