Legal to sell imports?

I'm looking at selling Import DVDs and Box Sets. I know ebay doesnt like that sort of selling anymore, I kind of found out they remove listings the hard way, by having my listings removed. But I'm hearing mixed issues whether its acctualy legal to sell imports or not.

The DVDs I want to sell arnt replicas or fakes, they are Region 9 .

Does anyone have any experience with selling this sort of thing able to offer any advice?

Yes it is, you just need to check with a customs agent.

My items are all approved beucase they are sold retail in the USA, I'm not to sure about DVD sets beucase the on going problems of counterfieting leads people to turn vendors down. I sometimes have trouble with my OWN items. ( as to convincing people the jeans are real)

Good luck though.

If you're selling Region 9 in the USA, you'll want to look up laws in your local area regarding "Grey Market" importation...
Region 9 is problematic as it's meant to be used in non-nationalised zones, or "expansion" regions where copyright laws don't exist. If you're getting these DVDs in from China, then I'm 99% sure they're bootlegged, and therefore illegal for sale in regions 1 - 5.

Considering your username, I assume you're looking to sell anime merch?

thanks

Well I found out the items I was buying were bootlegs after all.. unfortunate that I figured it out after selling a couple

It seems the supplier I found still sells a few authentic box sets (although very few).

Is it common for bootleg suppliers to carry authentic merchandise too? Just find it kind of strange, but I've verified that the products they claim are authentic do infact check out - and comming from china its still much cheaper then buying from the big suppliers here in united states.

Actually, that is common. It allows them to have a cloak of legitimacy by saying that they DO sell legit goods, and only displaying those on the outside.

This is going to sound a tad odd, but consider purchasing from MadMan in Australia.
Their discs are cheaper than from companies like Manga Entertainment or CPM, have more episodes, and generally have more extras.
They also have an insanely large range.

Thanks for the advice

Is this Madman a business entity in Australia?

Never heard of it before, nor have I heard of Manga Entertainment or CPM, although I guess I really dont fully know who I'm buying from.

Are we still talking about bootlegs/couterfeits or whatever they are producing or legit authentic stuff?

These are all legit producers.
Considering you've never heard of them makes me seriously wonder if you're in the right game.
MadMan pretty much dominates the S.E. Asian market for English language anime & manga, and the other two have about 50% of the US market sewn up between them

Madman Entertainment
Manga.com
Central Park Media: The Best in Japanese Animation--Anime Video and Manga

If you're not willing to or can't afford to go distributor direct, try ordering through Diamond Distributors.

Tell me how it goes for you, cause I'm considering starting up an anime based landing page for my affiliate program.
