Long time lurker. Love the advice you guys provide. Thought I'd see what you might have for me.

I have an idea for website that I would like to create which I would describe as being similar to MySpace, but to a niche market.

I would like pretty much the same basic features that MySpace provides, but with modifications to make unique.

What do you think the price range would be for something like this. I would like someone to basically set it up with my guidence, and have it so I can do basic updates, blogs, etc.

If this turns out too be to expensive, then what might be other alternatives?

I would be on a tight budget, so is there maybe a template to this type of website that can be modified to fit my needs. I have some website building experience with Yahoo's Sitebuilder, but with just basic skills.

One free script is ning.com, I used it for one of my failed ideas. Another script is PhpFox, it might be phpfox.com but it costs about $400.

I recommend a script called BuddyZone by a company called Vastal (or Vastel, something along them lines.) Do a search on HotScripts.com for BuddyZone and you'll find it.

It to as well is like $400-$500 but I believe its better then PHPFox in my opinion.

Buddy & Send, why would you want to create MySpace clones? Just like the many youtube clones & MySpace knockoff's, the market is saturated with them, unless they have something unique to them (niche market/user-group interface in the commmunity) I would not bother... Save your money and do something innovative with it.

I think myspace clones are really cool for adult websites when they are well done and not full of ads.
Such websites are not just a one time fee script though..... you need the script, you need the hosting, and most important you need the maintenance!

phpfox although does require php knowledge becuase it needs work imo. However for a complete novice etc its probably the best myspace platform out there
