Exclamation How much can it cost? (website)

Hi guys.

I am planning to construct a website in the UK, and I am therefore doing some research these days to find out what the budget should be.

It isn't really a rocket science project, but relatively simple.
The website should mainly include:

* A public user function (login/password etc.)
* A public advertisement function where registrered users can write ads and only registrered users will be able to see the contact information attached to the ads.

Of course the design have to be smooth and nice, but yet foolproof so everybody is able to use it.

How much can a site like this cost you think? Are we talking hundreds of thousands dollars, or is it realistic to keep it on a budget in the range of 2000-5000 dollars?

Do not hesitate to write whatever you know. Every information is useful information.

Thanks

You should be able to put something like this together using a CMS (content management system) such as Drupal. It gives you a quick and easy way to set up a website, including user registration. You then simply add extras modules to it depending on what you need. I do know that they have a classified ads module, but have not personally used it. I am currently using Drupal to run Christian Apparel Outlet, Christian Startups | Where Business Becomes Biblical, Leezer Corporation | Advancing the world through God's Word and AnnaMariasPizzeria.com. At ChristianApparelOutlet.com, we have all kinds of Christian clothing listed online that the customer can customize based on shirt color, size, design, and style (short sleeve, long sleeve, or hoodie). At ChristianStartups.com, we have a forum set up for Christian entrepreneurs and business owners. Check them out to get a feel for how Drupal might be able to help you.

Hey if your looking for a low cost but high quality web developer for your website, then you should check out www dot mysoftwareproject dot net (sorry, forums will not let me use links). Basically you sign up, post a description of your software project, and then sit back and relax while software developers from around the world place advertisements / cost estimations for your project.

Hope this information was helpful!

Daniel,

There are some solid open source CMS applications out there. The biggest benefit Drupal brings to the table is its built-in user management features. It comes out of the box ready for site visitors to be able to create user accounts and fill out their profile. Many of the other CMS options I list below are excellent Content Management Systems but are a bit light on the member-management aspects:

ExpressionEngine (ExpressionEngine.com)
MODx (modxcms.com)
Joomla! (joomla.org)
Plone (plone.org)

Hope this helps,
Michael
