It looks like the way it works is that you pay for the amount for ad clicks and then your garunteed that amount of clicks. Correct?

You're not realy guaranteed an amount of clicks - the amount of clicks depends on how well your ad is worded (this takes some time and tweaking) and more importantly, how much your daily budget is. You don't prepay for clicks, you pay as you get them up until your daily budget is hit.

You dont need a professional if you are willing to take the time to learn how to run an Adwords campaign.

http://www.google.com/adwords/learningcenter/

Google has put together an excellent resource to help you build an effective campaign.

If you dont have the time, or dont feel comfortable managing your campaign, use a service like http://www.myezclicks.com/ from Valueweb.

Just use a different search engine. Google is the only search engine designed sifferently all the rest are the same. I think other search engines have no frills. Google is to time consuming.

Thumbs up Google....

I did a FREESITE website for a local homeless shelter a few weeks ago, signed them up for Google Adsense, put a Google search box on their site, did the metatags/keywords, used Chaos Submitter to send their search engine registration to all the other majors, and now (six weeks later) if you type in your Google search bar - transitional shelter homeless Louisiana - they show up on the FIRST PAGE of results (EZEKIEL HOUSE - TRANSITIONAL SHELTER). Also cross-linked them with a few other Christian sites and submitted their name to half-a-dozen Christian Directories.
And it was all FREE....not one thin dime was spent on the website.
They are also listed on the first page of nearly all the major Christian sites as well in their Directories, and they are the ONLY listing in uscity.net for Slidell nonprofits. I don't know how much the Google Adsense/search box had to do with it, but I'm not gonna complain! As far as I am concerned Google is A-OK!

Google is supposidly the great, but I have my doubts in them and this system of determining the best possible outcome for their web searchers. I've tried them, several times, and maybe it was just how I approached it and it was probably something I screwed up, but lets put it this way, I emailed them and I suppose they felt sorry and made some rather specific suggestions to help the outcome, and I did, and yet it still failed miserably with no change, and my account was "slowed" again after like 3 views and 0 clicks of the entire campaign. I don't know, they are great, but I still haven't gotten the big picture and they have lost my confidence after that 60 minute special on them. I'm probably closing my account on Monday with them.

Bps092, I have to agree with you. They slow down your campaign a lot. Honestly I was getting about 30 clicks a day form them, but then they started to cancel the key words I chose. The words were working for me! So, I've come to the same conclusion that you have, I think I will also close my account on Monday.

As for dvdnesbitt, you missed the point. We are talking about google adwords. Your reply was about the page you made being in the actual results. As far as the google search results that works great, they have a good algorithm for that. However, it is the actual adwords that are the problem.

Google...again

OK...perhaps I missed the point as suggested....but I thought the object was to gain traffic for your website...and working with Google does generate traffic, and when you show up on the first page of search results it automatically leads to further increased traffic. Now, whether that increased traffic ALSO equates to "increased sales/profits" may be another story. But I thought the name of the game was developing traffic......sorry! (Of course I work with a local non-profit organization, and for our purposes "traffic" is EVERYTHING! If people aren't viewing your site, they aren't making donations, either!)
