E-commerce solution for a download site?

How would I go about setting up this kind of site? That allows both physical products to be ordered and download products to be brought and/ordered?

Basically, I would be offering software products. You can order a physical copy for one price and then I am notified with the address they want it sent to or a download copy for another price. What would the best way to do this be? I kinda confused about how this stuff works.

You could make it two different products for example:

Say you are selling a program called X

Sell it as two different products...

Physical CD X for $25
Downloaded X for $20

Then when they checkout, if they have bought the physical one, you take note of their home address, or if they have bought downloadable one, you see their email address and send it to that (the link for download).

That is a simplified way of doing it I guess

If you have the option, try to make your product SaaS

really, emerging software ought to be lightweight and web based

it's difficult to sell traditional software because clients want on demand access from anywhere in the world, rather than from their computers....and it's similar with enterprise products as well

this option is better for the developers because: recurring subscription fees; ability to "widgetise" and promote via word of mouse; less overhead because no need to ship disks

more: The Bottom Line on SaaS

There is Zen cart, OScommerce and cre loaded, I have used them all but tend to stick with cre it is in my opinion the overall best one out of the three. It is basically OScommerce with loads of extras already built in to it. The latest version is 6.2 I think and it has the functions to allow for the purchase of physical products( Disks ) and virtual products ( Download the disk ).

If you need any help with getting it running feel free to ask.
