I'm looking to start an online business but I want to know the ins and outs of the legal issues involoved. What legal issues should I be aware of before I start up an e-commerce?? What do I need in order to trade online legally?

Thanks

You need to be a legitimate business, get a business name and Tax ID or resale permit from your respective state. You can usually do this easy without a pricey lawyer, maybe for a few hundred bucks or less. I'd suggest an LLC because it protects you from personal liability.

North Ireland (UK) might be different from USA... I'd google for what you are looking for Or if Lex would be kind enough to share his information, I'm sure that would be the easiest way to go (and more than one person might benefit from it )

There you go.. just like he said.

This is your first step.. many people get stuck on this first step!
Once you get a name, go get yourself a business license, tax ID, seperate bank account for your business(if you want, for tax purposes).

Rest comes after that.. so get this 1st step out of the way.

Go to www.companieshouse.gov.uk - Loads of information on registering businesses and you can actually register through them. Having said that, it is probably best to consult a solicitor/lawyer (preferably a friend of the family/of a friend as there is a possibility of a no or a reduced fee)

Try This Site

If you live in CA. then use this site: http://www.calgold.ca.gov/ it will tell you all the forms and all that legal stuff you will need to file. Great Site, and it is run by the Gov. So you know they will not steer you wrong.
