Blogging

Does anyone use blogs to sell their products/services? I'm thinking about getting one to endorse my book. I'm also interested in adsense too.

What kind of blogs do you use?

I have a blog about the use of ads on websites. Recently launched but already gaining profit thru affiliates and adsense. Let me know if you have any questions that aren't answered on there.

Thanks for your help.

Could I develop a blog in the front page of my site but then have other non-blog pages? Kind of like this site: www.johnnycupcakes.com

I don't even know if this is a blog but it's format looks like it. Thanks again.

Yeah you could set that up. I'm no expert but all you'll need is a link on the front page that points them to whatever it is you'd like them to go to.

I used wordpress themes

Then you can edit most of it from the back end of the site.

Wordpress is very friendly. Many hosts come with it easily installed. It can be customized easily and has an easy admin panel. Give it a try

I dont recommend godaddy or 1and1 if you are a first time wordpress installer. I had a ton of trouble with both of them.

Just my take on the whole "blog on the main page" thing, I think it is perfect for smaller companies, it gives the business a personal touch and let's you keep your customers informed and up to date on what is going on which is super important in create a relationship of trust with customers and potential customers. The only tip I would have on it is follow the lead of the Johnny Cupcake example above, keep it short, visual, and easy to skim over. Don't make it a huge dear diary entry. To sell a book you will probably want to limit your blog to a post a week MAX and use it as an update on the success of your book and the positive responses you are getting from readers.

Use WordPress, It's the most used blogging system. Both Plesk and cPanel provide it. I can get you some pretty cool skins if you use it. Also check out wickshosting.com we have a package at $1,59 a month, perfect for running a blog.

I use wordpress as well. The personal blog is in my signature.

I also run another blog for my ecommerce site which isn't listed in my sig, but it has become a very useful marketing tool. Blogs are nice because they can really help control what potential customers see when they search for your name and / or products. For that "business" blog of mine, I control certain key terms and when the customer clicks onto the blog my ecommerce banner is right there begging to be clicked - and they do click. Nearly a 100% goal conversion per the analytics tracking.

So, in short... blogs are an awesome marketing tool.
