I found some on alibaba with extremely low prices, but im pretty sure they were scams.

I was talking to one of my suppliers(for my iPod skins) and he said:

the stores buy the iPods for example... $280 for a 15 GB, and apple sets the retail price at $300. that keeps the prices the same and pretty much cuts out any competition for cheapest prices because even if you cut it $1, that's a 5% price cut. Also, Apple makes an average of $150 per iPod sold. But anyways, my supplier was telling me all of the money is in the accessories, because if I sell 2 iTrips(I get them for $20, soldl is $30), i'd make teh same price as seling 1 iPod.

That is where everyone is making money these days. Best Buy will sell a $3 ethernet patch cable for $15. They try to sell parallel cables for $30. I wanted to a by a 25 pack of the pda screen protectors (the little vinyl screen condoms that comes with the pdas that everyone throws away) and it was $250!

Accessories is where it is at.

Another place is services. We bought 11 wireless access points here at work, and for liability purposes (so we could point the finger at the supplier), we paid them $2500 for a site survery and $3000 to install them. I think it was a waste of $5500. We did everything but plug them in, as it is. We had plywood mounting boards put up, we have electical run, we had ethernet runs put in, and I configured the access points. The only thing the guy did was get on a lift (that we rented), and hand them up there and plug them in. And the guy took every opportunity to have a break, and he kept talking about wanting to run to the hardware store, like he was going through withdraw. I think he was running to a bar. Anyhow, he was not very professional and did not reflect very highly apon the supplier, and they made a buttload of money.

Mortages! Become a mortgage broker. Basically, you have your client put together a huge package of information, you look at it and tell them you need more, and then you find a mortgage company and give them the package. All things the client and lender could have handled without you, and you make a couple thousand dollars.

I've got a friend who works at our new local apple reseller and I was quite shocked to learn how little their profit margin is on the products.

Seems unfair too me somehow

reselling apple products is an extremely hard market to compete in. They have products that everybody wants but it is impossible to find a source that can supply you and make a decent profit margin.
