Amazon Webstore vs. Yahoo! Stores

Apologies if there is a thread on this, but I did not find any.

My question is how would you compare the two services. For Amazon, it looks like there is one monthly fee. One package at one price, and the $59.99 fee includes credit card processing fees, but there is a 7% commission.

Yahoo stores offers various packages. Starts at 39.95 with 1.5% commission/transaction fee. However, you have to find your own merchant cc processing service.

Not sure how to use this info to see what makes the most sense. I think the price difference is negligible, so it comes down to which company provides the most benefits (e.g. marketing, seller tools, etc.).

Thanks for your help!

MDub618,

How HTML savvy are you? If you can do a little bit of coding there are serveral open source programs that you can get (For FREE) that will run a store for you.

What type of products are you selling? Are you doing the whole Amazon.Com Affiliate where you are selling their products in your store or are these your products?

Lastly, you migh want to take a look at PayPal for some processing services.

I say look for help on building a website that has your own store. But definitely, go with Amazon--their process protects both you and the buyer and they give you much more visibility.

I would use an open source shopping cart like Zen Cart. You can hook it up to PayPal and save the monthly fees.

Amazon WebStore vs. Yahoo! Stores...my take

great thread...I have an mp3 online store for a few years now, and when I first started it yet, I was also part of the Amazon WebStore vs. Yahoo debate. I went with Amazon at webstore.amazon.com for my online store.
Here's my pros and cons of both WebStore and Yahoo.

WebStore by Amazon:
Pros: It's really cheap at only about $60 a month. Plus, it's from Amazon so that increases consumer confidence in your store. They also include a link from Amazon.com to your site. The templates are pretty modern and contemporary looking.
Cons: It's a template and you're able to choose from several types and customize them, but it's still a template.

Yahoo! Stores:
Pros: Like Amazon, it's also cheap at about $40/month. Their "Store Editor" in the backend of their store is also pretty simple.
Cons: They have a $50 setup fee, which is kind of strange since you're setting it up yourself. They also have some processing fees. They're a little finicky also - the store I had wasn't that easy to use.

Which do you all prefer? Pros? Cons?
