To Twitter or not to Twitter?

I have seen many people asking lately if it is worth it or not to open a Twitter account. Twitter is the hottest craze and people are using it for everything from promoting their business to letting you know they’re getting a haircut. I think that if you have a blog and you are looking to promote it, there is no reason not to get sign up for Twitter.
One reason I say that is because you can advertise your blog posts without even having to log on to your Twitter page. There are plugins for WordPress such as Bird Feeder that will automatically put your post on your page in a new tweet. No effort needed on your part.
However, to fully take advantage of all the possibilities Twitter has to offer, I wouldn’t recommend just doing that (although it is better than nothing). Go out and find people who share the same interests, follow them, and many times they will follow you back. This is helpful because more people will be exposed to your posts. Not only that, but if you follow people with the same interests, you may be able to learn a thing or two from them.
If you really work on your account and can get let’s say 1,000 followers, you can do some real damage. Let’s say you create a new post on your blog and it is added as a tweet on your Twitter. This means 1,000 people will be exposed to that post. If only a quarter of those people check it out, that’s still 250 unique visitors to your blog. Not a bad trade off.
Overall, I highly recommend everyone at least give Twitter a chance. And don’t forget to add me on your Twitter.
