Not even the most popular girl in the biggest high school in the world has sent more texts than this entrepreneur. Derek Johnson of Bellingham, Washington is 25 years old and the founder of Tatango.com . His niche in the “short code” texting world is working with large groups including sports teams, churches and universities.

He shares that though he met a lot of great people and learned a couple things in his entrepreneurship curriculum at the University of Houston, he couldn’t wait to drop out. The excuse to bail came one night when a friend called with a “problem”. Derek knew just the man to solve it — him. From that one phone call a business was born and like most businesses usually are, it was born when an entrepreneur set out to solve a problem.
