Top 100 Most Listed People on Twitter

Twitter lists have been available for a couple of months now and when they were introduced were considered to be a significant step forward for the fluttering bird. In this way, you could organize your interaction and group together people who you were interested in or following according to genres or other categorization. When you create Twitter lists, the individual Twitter streams of the users are brought together so you are getting all your like-minded information, notifications, ideas and thoughts together in one place. Lists may be appropriate for members of your family, your sports teams, your business niche. Within a group you can include people who you are not actually following and you can then surreptitiously monitor competitors’ streams without them knowing that your doing so and without actually following them.

As Twitter lists emerged and became more popular, Listorius emerged to tell us all about it. They bring us a curated collection of lists from within a wide array of categories and you can also see how many people are actually following those lists. It is possible to look through lists according to keyword tags and is also possible to see how many people are included on lists.

You may have heard of #follow Friday’s, which was a trend early on among tweeps to suggest various interesting people for others to follow. Twitter lists are basically an extension of this philosophy and you can recommend cool people by creating a list of these characters. Other people can then view your list and opt to follow the people on it or follow the list in its entirety.

Does it follow that the more lists you are mentioned on, the more popular you are? We bring to you the list of the top 100 most listed people on Twitter, as published by Listorius, to whom we give thanks for this contribution. You will see Pete Cashmore of Mashable at the top, with Guy Kawasaki, a columnist for Entrepreneur Magazine second. As you can see, there are not many "household names" here, at least at the top. Do you know who Ray Beckerman is? He is a business lawyer in New York City, involved with the recording industry.

There are a number of Internet marketing related individuals and entities toward the top of the list, no doubt partly due to IM’s fascination with everything Twitter. Having said that, it would be interesting to analyze just why some of these names appear on so many lists. People with the most Twitter followers, such as Ashton Kutcher, Barack Obama and Ellen DeGeneres are on the list, albeit further down. For example, Ellen is at number 80. Liverpool Supporters and LFC Liverpool FC are very highly placed. Could the appearance of some of these names be part of a concerted effort just to ensure that they are on this list? Listorius does point out this compilation is based on lists aggregated within its system.
