Enjoyed the article - thanks for the great insight. I particularly like your comment about missing work days. I think that really sums up if you can tell is someone is passionate about their work. Someone who loves their job doesn't see it as work and is there everyday. Those that are not doing what their passionate about will always look to find an excuse to get out of doing the work, and that is where these sick days come in.

What a great topic! I was just discussing this via a blog article this morning written by Jenn Givler. Ironic to say the least.
Unfortunately I would be considered the one that lives in 'fantasy land' as I believe anyone can do anything that they put their minds to doing, which includes being an entrepreneur. However, reality sunk in when I became a professional network marketer in 2007. At first I wanted everyone on my team, but I learned rather quickly how to pick up on personality traits that tell me, "this person is not a true entrepreneur and lacks the drive it takes". I do think behavior can be learned but I firmly believe we are born with the 'drive' in us. For example, I would love to take credit for my son, Christopher, that went 12 years without missing a day of school, but it wasn't me. He was born with 'the drive'.
Thanks for a great thought provoking article!

Adam,

Thanks for the post. Over the summer, I have a job where the manager lets me set my own hours so that I can golf 2-3 times a week. The make-my-own-hours factor came up when I started thinking about becoming an entrepreneur. That definitely serves as some sort of motivation to avoid the typical 9-5 boring day.

Nonetheless, an entrepreneur has to work hard. An entrepreneur must be a leader, determined, and patient about the business. Businesses do not develop over night, businesses develop over time. All in all, though, an entrepreneur needs to be passionate about what they do and this is what employees that take days off regularly, are lacking. They obviously do not enjoy their job and are not passionate about their work for the overall well-being of the business.

Owning your own business - it is the quintessential American Dream. Being your own boss, setting your own hours, and being responsible for all income that flows your way is incredibly appealing and being an entrepreneur is fantastic and extremely rewarding, if you have the personality for it. A recent study indicated that successful entrepreneurs share many common personality traits and that it is these traits, rather than education, family ties, experience or skills that indicate how successful they are or will become.

I'm writing this from my phone so I apologize for poor grammar. I am writing from my phone because I am currently dealing with profound IT issues with my computer. I was gripped by your article for two reasons...1 I feel that you made some very accurate assements to the differences in personality and that correlation with what type of personality you have and how that is mirrored in your career path. Secondly I have been tirelessly building a company of my own. I am a seo consultant but graphic design and web development specialist by trade...I have only in the last 2 years seen the competitive edge having a seo understanding and skillset can have on the market I am in. Without funding I am putting off credit debt...to extend my time and resources towards building the infrastructure. With no funding I am unable to outsource and utilize those business methods which would allow for growth.I also lack a lot of the basic behavioral characteristics yo mentioned above but realize that they are the attitudes that I must learn to adapt to in order to succeed. What would you suggest to someone like myself who is forced due to the current financial status to implement in order to grow when I do the graphics, web dev., seo, invoicing, marketing and of course lead conversions and generations. I'm tired...driven though to no end.
