Over the last few weeks we have been asking you “What’s been the best Social Media marketing channel for a business and why?”
Thanks to everyone who entered this months poll, the overall winner was Twitter, followed closely by Facebook.
Here are your answers to “What’s been the best Social Media marketing channel for a business and why?”
1. “Twitter has been the best for my online ventures. But I have seen quite a few businesses have great success on Facebook. I think that it really comes down to finding the right marketing medium for your situation.”
2. “I got addicted to twitter this year. Twitter has been a craze for me and I find it so easy and handy for marketing.
However a lot of my hopes were let down by Facebook!!
Out of frustration I closed down my Facebook account! Sorry guys but I have not benefitted from Facebook in any way…also I find it very boring and it seems like they have very less new stuff to offer!
I also found that WordPress Blogs are a great way to market your services or business….wordpress blogs also appear in the search results which is a great advantage!
My votes for Twitter and WordPress!!”
3. “So far, Twitter has produced the highest traffic to my site per hour invested, but LinkedIn is gaining on it. Plus I think the LinkedIn traffic is more focused, so might have a higher actual ROI.”
4. “I would definitely say that Facebook Fan Page has really worked for me as well as Twitter. In addition, LinkedIn has been great to keep up conversations with professionals in your field.
Plus, blogging has been a positive force. I feel if your company has a blog it gives you more credible by giving you a chance to show your expertise.”
5. “I’m finding HootSuite, and especially it’s support for Facebook fan pages … very useful. I can now monitor traffic, jump in and chat, all from one application.”
6. “This past year I’d have to say Facebook. I think you are able to stay pretty visible with your friends in there; however, I also have to admit that I’ve spent 50% of my time there and the other half split between twitter, linked in, and you tube – so it’s all relative!”
7. “For full disclosure, I have to start off by saying I am co-founder of efactor.com, the social network for entrepreneurs globally.
Having said that, we also use all other social networks for our own activities and marketing and I believe this trend will continue to grow in 2010. However, I seriously believe (so serious that we did start our own niche network) that more and more, you will see a divergence in networks. Networks will start catering more and more for specific interest groups and therefore there will be a rise in niche social networks. In general, I believe that most people will choose two or three networks they feel the closest sense of belonging to and start to leave the larger generic networks or use them merely to stay in touch socially with existing friends. But niche networks will become the way to build new connections, find out what is going on in areas that affect your own world.
Having said all that, for now my vote for best way of promoting my business go to E.Factor, Twitter and various blog sites!”
8. “My first choice is linkedin.com”
9. “I feel that it really depends on the industry and field that your business is in. Certain sites will work well for certain products/services and others won’t. Will MySpace work well for music? Absolutely. Will MySpace work well for insurance? Probably not.
I would advise discovering where your customers are congregating, discussing/sharing content and which forms of media they prefer. This can inform many facets of your business not just your marketing side because you learn about your potential customer’s real concerns, observations, favourite competitors, etc thereby informing product development, content creation, FAQs, marketing campaigns, advertising allocation and so forth. Often companies large and small throw themselves into the social media marketing space without any prior planning yet carefully plan other marketing campaigns. Do your homework before investing time and money on social campaigns.”
10. “With the growth of social media sites, it has given rise to the online marketing mix. Not all social media sites are going to be right for all businesses. Picking the marketing mix that is right for your brand, industry and objectives of the marketing strategy are essential.”
If you would still like to add your comments, we are leaving the contest open for 1 more week.
