Young Entrepreneur Profile – EMS Disc Jockey Services

I learned about Eric Smith from The News Sentinel in a recent story. Eric is the owner of EMS Disc Jockey Services, a company he started at the age of 17 and now, on top of a busy high school schedule, he works another 25+ hours a week on his business.

Get A Mentor
Eric started as an apprentice for a local DJ when he was 14 and by the time he was 17, branched out on his own and landed his first 3 wedding contracts.
How Eric Promotes His Business

He goes to the Chamber of Commerce mixers to meet other business owners and he says word of mouth is the best way to advertise.  “If you go to a bridal shower, you have to follow up with phone calls,” says Smith.

“It’s all really a learning experience. You always find yourself talking to people.”

Has anyone mentored you to help you get your start in your business?

  1. Eric Smith says:

Robb Young mentored me. I was an apprentice with him for 1 year. Then he moved to Kansas for family problems. He sold the business to Sean Meadd, but I did not get along with him because of personal reasons. I left that business and started my own.
