I first saw Tony on the Apprentice. Before he appeared on the show I had a negative impression of his company, Zappos. Just the way they represented Zappos was not compelling. After learning how his company culture is geared around service, particularly customer service, I really saw the "light" and have much respect. He's an innovator in a business that has been around from the beginning - shoes! It's not a shoe company, it's not a technology/internet company. It's a customer service company. A people-oriented company.

Great interview! I love his quote about how his first marketing dollar was spent on customer service, which is so dead on in my opinion. A current customer referral to a new potential customer is so much more effective than an advertisement.

Adam, great interview with Tony. I met Tony late in 2008 at a conference for entrepreneurs in Phoenix. What a class act he is. His presentation on service was the best of the entire conference. The one thing I admire most about Tony, and there are several things I admire about him, is despite his enormous success, Tony remains down to earth and completely connected to his passion for people. Tony's passion for his employees, customers, and fellow entrepreneurs is what makes him incredibly special and successful. He's a great role model for the global community of entrepreneurs!
