What Is The Best Business To Start Up In A Recession? – Entrepreneur Poll

It’s time for another poll here at Young Entrepreneur and the first of 2009!

This month our question is: What is the best business to start up in a recession?

Many people are being forced into entrepreneurship because they got laid off from their jobs and can’t find another one.

Others are choosing entrepreneurship because they are tired of someone else controlling their destiny.

If you were to start a business today given this economic climate, what would it be?

I would love to hear your thoughts so we can put together a comprehensive list of ideas and suggestions for those entrepreneurs who are starting up!

  2. matrix says:

  3. Mike says:

    Matrix,
I have a lot of experience with computer design and development. Are you looking for anything in particular?

  4. Cathy Powell says:

I think people buy more alcohol, wine and beer during tough financial times.

  5. Sam says:

Somthing to do with “Food” everyone always buys food no matter whats going on ….Yes food and beer!

    • Suzanne says:

Sam, that’s so true. I think Cathy’s right too.

My partner and I blog about teaching people how to run an internet business, but it has a foodie theme.

In Seth Godin’s great little marketing book, Meatball Sundae, he talks about how important it is to offer what is scarce.

For example, spare time is scarce – so people who run errands for busy people could be on to something.

  6. Soumya says:

No matter, how bad is the recession, but people need thier daily commodities.
They need to have food and water.
So starting some foodie business in low cost will really hit up…
